The past 2 weeks I feel like my workouts have just been terrible! I push through them, but I never get that nice jolt of energy as I usually do after my first set of kettlebells or whatever workout I'm doing. I noticed my body feeling tighter….and I tweaked by back doing an exercise I do on a regular basis.
I began to pay even more attention to my diet- I even tried to carb up before a workout, tried energy supplements…and still nothing.
I decided I needed a massage, and visited Patty from ZenMe Massage. I thought….this will be a great way to relax, and work out and kinks I've had. I felt WONDERFUL right after. But, a few hours later I felt I was hit by a truck. Was this a detox process my body was going through? I relaxed the rest of the night, drank water, and went to sleep early and woke up feeling fine.
So what is the issue here? I realized I was not giving my workout enough variety, probably doing a little too many weights (sometimes 2x a day), and not enough REST time in between.
For someone else- this could be cake. But every body has a different way of adapting to physical and mental stress.
Too many times we get caught up in doing more and more and more and more…..that we forget to actually REST. I always associate that if I am not at work, it means I'm resting. But resting does not mean running around and doing errands, cleaning and cooking (even though those things can be relaxing…sometimes). Resting means taking is easy- and not thinking about your schedule or the next day, or year or your whole life… :)
We know the scientific evidence says we need for rest for proper recovery. Even professional athletes have an active rest day. The main point is- they take at least a day off from their regular routine.
If you are a workout junkie working out 5-6 days a week, and having been feeling off lately….take a day off.
If you are having a hard time just GETTING to the gym…then you need to talk to me.
Rest days are not only important physically, but also mentally. :)
HAPPY TRAINING!
